Making Phonics Fun at Home
Learning to read shouldn't feel like a chore! I've found that incorporating movement into phonics lessons can change everything for a struggling reader.
First and Foremost, I am a mom. I love my two beautiful children and cherish the time I get to spend with them at home. That is the main reason I chose to tutor, instead of teaching full time. I love seeing the "lightbulb moments" when my students understand a concept for the first time. Being able to make a difference in my community and in the lives of my students means the world to me.
I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education, and I can assist in many subjects, although I focus on reading, writing and math as a foundation. I use a phonics based approach to help young readers decode words. With more advanced readers, I focus on writing and comprehension skills to enhance their abilities. In math, I strive to build on a foundation of basic algebraic thinking to assist in understanding concepts at each student's level and comfort.
I enjoy making learning fun and engaging. Learning and teaching are my passions and I want each of my students to learn to love learning just as much as I do. As someone with ADHD, I enjoy learning new ways to work with my unique brain and teaching students how to do the same. I believe neurodiversity is a strength, and is not an indicator of intelligence. In fact, many neurodivergent brains work much harder than most to compensate in a world full of rigid expectations.
I am always striving to find new ways to make a difference in the lives of students and I am currently expanding my tutoring business by creating digital content to enable parents and teachers around the globe.
My son has been receiving reading lessons for nearly two years now and has made amazing progress. Mrs. Vance makes learning fun! My son looks forward to going to his reading lessons every week and I can see his confidence grow as his ability to read improves.
Tabetha, Parent
My 2nd grader was at a Kindergarten level for reading and even though we had an SEP, she wasn't improving quickly enough to move on to 3rd grade. As a last hope we reached out to Mrs. Vance and I cannot express how amazing our decision was! My student improved quicker in just one month.

Working with Mrs. Vance as a homeschool family was the winning combination we were looking for! Having a professional educator on "our team" has given us added confidence to continue our homeschooling journey.
